Video footage from the scene shows a man on the ground as federal agents place him in handcuffs. Several residents gathered nearby, with some questioning and confronting agents during the encounter.

The situation became tense as more people arrived and began recording the incident.

The man was later identified as 40-year-old Ricardo Gonzalez, a U.S. citizen.

Long Beach Police Respond to the Incident

The Long Beach Police Department confirmed that officers responded to the area after receiving a request for assistance involving reports of vehicle vandalism and an injured individual.

Upon arriving, officers located a man who was handcuffed and bleeding.

According to police, blocked streets prevented Long Beach Fire Department personnel from reaching the injured man. Officers transported him to a nearby fire station, where his handcuffs were removed and emergency medical personnel provided assistance before taking him to a hospital.

LBPD stated that its officers did not participate in federal immigration enforcement or make any arrests during the incident.

City Officials Address ICE Activity

The incident prompted reactions from Long Beach city officials, including Mayor Rex Richardson and Councilwoman Tunua Thrash-Ntuk.

City leaders have previously emphasized that the Long Beach Police Department does not participate in federal civil immigration enforcement operations.

Federal immigration authorities operate independently of local law enforcement, although local police may respond to emergencies involving public safety or medical assistance.

Immigration Enforcement Continues Across Southern California

Saturday’s incident occurred during a period of increased federal immigration enforcement activity across Southern California.

Reports of a 45-day enforcement initiative have circulated as immigration operations continue in communities throughout Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties.

Federal authorities have not confirmed whether Saturday’s North Long Beach operation was directly connected to that initiative.

Questions Remain About the Encounter

The circumstances leading to the man’s detention and injuries have not been fully established.

Video footage documents portions of the encounter, but does not provide a complete account of what occurred before federal agents restrained him.

As of Sunday, October 18, additional details regarding the initial confrontation, the man’s medical condition, and any potential charges had not been publicly confirmed.
