Tuesday Night Roller Skating Is Bringing DJs and Lights to Junipero Beach

Sunset Skate LBC is bringing music, DJs and colorful lights to the Junipero Beach skating area on Tuesday nights, but you can show up and skate for free any day of the week.

Tuesday nights at Junipero Beach have been looking a little different this summer.

Starting around 6 p.m., Sunset Skate LBC has been bringing DJs, music and colorful lights to the roller-skating area at Junipero Beach, turning the outdoor rink into a nighttime skate session right by the ocean.

What appears to have started pretty small has been attracting more people as the summer goes on.

As far as we know, Sunset Skate LBC is a community-organized meetup and not an official City of Long Beach event. That also means there’s no telling how long the Tuesday sessions will continue in their current form, so if you’re coming specifically for the DJs and lights, it’s a good idea to check Sunset Skate LBC for the latest information.

Tuesday Nights Aren't the Only Time People Skate at Junipero Beach

Here’s the important part: the roller-skating area itself is public and you don’t need an event to use it.

You can show up with your skates and use the space throughout the week.

Weekends in particular can get pretty active. People bring their own speakers, meet up with friends and skate for hours. Sometimes there’s a whole group out there with music going, and other times it’s just a handful of people doing their own thing.

Different groups and individual skaters also organize their own meetups throughout the year.

The tricky part is that a lot of them aren’t necessarily easy to find online. Sometimes it’s a small skating account or simply someone in the community putting something together and spreading the word.

Junipero Beach Has Become a Meetup Spot for Long Beach Skaters

The skating area has become a natural starting point for other skating events too.

For National Skate Day, for example, skaters gathered at Junipero Beach before heading out together for a larger rollout through Long Beach.

And that’s pretty typical of how the space gets used. Sometimes there’s an organized event, sometimes there’s a meetup, and sometimes people just show up with skates and a speaker.

You don’t really need a special occasion.

Looking for Roller Skating in Long Beach?

The City officially calls it a roller-skating area. It’s an outdoor oval skating space located right by the sand at Junipero Beach, with an open area in the middle where people can practice, hang out or take a break from going around the main loop.

It’s open to the public, completely free, and people of all ages use it.

Just bring your own roller skates or rollerblades.
