No More 2-Hour Free Parking in Downtown Long Beach

City Place C (51 E. 3rd St.)

A popular free parking option in Downtown Long Beach is about to change.

Starting September 1, 2026, drivers using the three City Place parking garages will only receive one hour of free parking, instead of the two free hours currently offered.

The City of Long Beach Parking website has posted the upcoming rate change on all three City Place garage pages. After the first free hour, drivers will be charged $2 per hour, with a $12 daily maximum.

The change will affect:

  • City Place A: 50 E. 6th St.
  • City Place B: 50 E. 5th St.
  • City Place C: 51 E. 3rd St.

All three garages are located in the heart of Downtown Long Beach and are commonly used by people visiting nearby restaurants, shops and businesses.

For drivers who currently take advantage of the two free hours, the biggest change is simple: starting September 1, staying longer than one hour will no longer be free.

The City had previously approved reducing the free parking period from two hours to one. In its FY 2026 budget, Long Beach projected an additional $150,000 in parking revenue associated with the City Place parking change.

The two-hour free parking period remains in place through the end of August. The new one-hour free parking limit officially takes effect Tuesday, September 1.
