Long Beach Police Celebrate Graduation of 100th Police Academy Class

The milestone graduation marks the department’s 100th academy class as new officers prepare to begin serving communities across Long Beach.

Graduates of the Long Beach Police Department's 100th Academy Class celebrate after completing months of training before beginning their careers as police officers.

The Long Beach Police Department recently celebrated a significant milestone with the graduation of its 100th Police Academy Class, marking another step in preparing new officers to serve communities throughout the city.

The graduating recruits completed months of intensive training covering patrol procedures, criminal law, emergency response, firearms, defensive tactics, de-escalation, investigations, physical fitness, and community policing before earning their badges.

For the department, the graduation represents more than just the end of an academy. It also highlights the continued effort to recruit and train the next generation of Long Beach police officers.

Months of Training Lead to Graduation

Police academy training is designed to prepare recruits for the wide variety of situations they may encounter while serving the public.

Throughout the academy, recruits receive classroom instruction and practical, scenario-based training intended to develop decision-making, communication, and critical thinking skills alongside traditional law enforcement techniques.

Graduation marks the completion of the academy, but it is only the beginning of the officers’ careers. New graduates will continue their training in the field under the supervision of experienced Field Training Officers before beginning independent patrol assignments.

A Milestone for the Department

Reaching the department’s 100th academy class reflects decades of training new officers who have gone on to serve neighborhoods throughout Long Beach.

As the city continues to grow and evolve, the department says investing in training remains an important part of preparing officers to respond professionally, work collaboratively with the community, and meet the challenges of modern policing.

The graduation also serves as an opportunity to recognize the commitment made by each recruit, whose journey through the academy required months of demanding physical, academic, and practical instruction.
